Caught Being Healthy

Yay we finally have something that encourages kids to bring nude food and eat healthy!!
In assembly once a week we give out one Caught Being Healthy awards for the Yr 1-4 and one.
In Yr 5-8 they get a certificate and how they get that is 3 monitors go around each couple of days and if you are eating healthy you go into the draw to get a certificate.  If you get picked you get a container to put food in so you can carry nude food!
this is the piece of paper your name goes on to get picked out.

Chess Set

A few years ago we put a request down for a giant chess set, and last term we got one! Mr Andrews and some students from the hub created giant chess pieces out of wood at the beginning of the term, and then towards the school jubilee, some of the hub students painted the chess board. The children enjoy playing with the chest pieces when it's out.

Rubbish Bins

we have put up some new signs on our rubbish bins to help our students know what bins to put their rubbish in so they don't mix up what goes in what bins. Hopefully these signs will help so the bins stay bins and recycling stays recycling.

BABY CHICKENS!!!

We have finally had baby chicks, two currently hatched and one to go! The news is buzzing around school and everyone is super excited about it.

2014 Blog

Hens

The school hens have worked very hard in our resting garden everyday. We use the hens to help us in permaculture gardening. The hens are now laying eggs for us, which is a bonus!

Bees

We have sold a good amount of honey this year. Unfortunately, we lost our hive during the winter months. Our bee keeper is still going to work with children on his other hives.

Co-Op Shop

The first Friday of every month the Enviro Team run a Co-Op shop at school. If children choose to sell at this shop they receive half the funds and the Enviro team receives the remaining half.

Goldfields School is welcomed

At Netherton School we celebrate cultural diversity.  This term we welcomed Goldfields School from Paeroa who spent their time with us teaching us how to sign the National Anthem.

Creating A Bird Haven At Netherton School

Mr John Gaukrodger from DOC suggested that if we were to encourage Native bird life back in to Netherton School we could plant a bird Island for them. We decided to make use of the tall trees that are already there and surround them in flax and edible trees, such as feijoa, guava, coprosma, persimmon. We took action and invited a group of parents to help us create such an island.
